Our Work

What We Do

BBF empowers communities to thrive by advancing education, environmental conservation, and cultural preservation through integrated programs, partnerships, and community-driven initiatives.

We expand access to quality education through digital learning, teacher training, improved school infrastructure, WASH facilities, and school feeding programs โ€” equipping learners and educators with the tools they need to succeed.

We promote environmental stewardship through the Eldoret Animal Sanctuary and the Nature & Culture Centre, where rescued wildlife is protected and communities engage in conservation education. These spaces also offer immersive cultural learning, connecting people to heritage, nature, and sustainable living practices.

Our Framework

Three Pillars of Impact

The Challenge

Communities face significant barriers to quality education, including digital illiteracy, limited access to online platforms, and insufficient school infrastructure. These challenges reduce opportunities, limit access to learning resources, and affect academic performance. Inadequate infrastructure โ€” including lack of space, poor governance, malnutrition, and absence of utilities โ€” further undermines learning outcomes.

BBF Response

BBF addresses these challenges by providing digital learning tools, teacher training, WASH facilities, school feeding programs, and improvements to learning environments. Environmental and cultural education is integrated into curricula to promote holistic learning and community engagement.

Key Programs

  • Kapsoo Primary School Kitchen Garden โ€” Elgeyo Marakwet
  • Kirudi Primary School WASH โ€” Kwale County
  • Ndabibi Main Comprehensive School WASH โ€” Nakuru County
  • Tinet Digital Literacy Library โ€” Baringo County
  • Getsemane Digital Learning Hub โ€” Uasin Gishu (Pilot, 2026)

The Challenge

Environmental threats โ€” including habitat loss, poaching, deforestation, and climate change โ€” have serious implications for biodiversity, livelihoods, and community resilience. These challenges contribute to the erosion of traditional knowledge and cultural practices tied to natural resources.

BBF Response

BBF interventions focus on tree planting, ecosystem restoration, support for community conservancies and wildlife sanctuaries, and climate change mitigation programs. Community awareness initiatives strengthen local stewardship and foster sustainable management of natural resources.

Key Programs

  • Eldoret Animal Sanctuary โ€” wildlife rescue & rehabilitation
  • Wileli Wildlife Conservancy โ€” habitat protection
  • Tiwi Turtle Conservation โ€” coastal ecosystems
  • Grey Crowned Crane Protection โ€” urban conflict response

The Challenge

Globalization, modernization, and lifestyle changes have contributed to the erosion of cultural identity and indigenous knowledge. The lack of formal and informal cultural education, museums, cultural centers, and institutional expertise threatens the continuity of traditions, values, and practices.

BBF Response

BBF supports the documentation of cultural heritage, promotes arts and storytelling, facilitates intergenerational mentorship, and establishes cultural centers. These efforts ensure that culture remains an active, valued component of community life and education.

Key Programs

  • Eldoret Nature & Culture Centre โ€” traditional homestead displays
  • School cultural education visits
  • Intergenerational storytelling programs
